8トンの矢穴石とそれより重い想い
ついに矢穴石が名古屋へ出発しました。
今も残る300以上の矢穴石のうちから運搬手段、姿、大きさから8トンの石が選ばれました。
名古屋城築城のおりには島の形が変わるほど膨大な量の石材が切り出されました。
子供の頃から「名古屋城の石垣は篠島の石でできているんだぞ」と島の長老から
何度も聞かされた風景が今日はカラー映像のように鮮明に思い出されます。
「篠島に多く残る矢穴石の一つでも名古屋城へ展示できたら・・・」と、初めて聞かされたのは島の石橋さんからでした。
篠島が国定公園に指定されていること、一方、名古屋城も文化財であることから
それは難しいだろう、と言うのが実感でした。
それでも石橋さんはどうしても名古屋城を訪れる人たちに名古屋城を支える
石垣の歴史を知ってもらいたいという情熱から、孤軍奮闘で各方面に運動をされました。
一条の光りが見えた頃には、篠島漁協、南知多町、篠島区、観光協会を巻き込んだ
大きなうねりとなっていました。
個人の情熱から始まった篠島矢穴石を名古屋城へという願いが、多くのハードルを越えました。
名古屋城があるかぎり、この矢穴石は、見る人に遥か昔の築城風景を想像させるでしょう。
石橋さんをはじめとして、この運動に奔走した島民と南知多町の支援には感謝しかありません。
23日に名古屋城で行われる引き渡し式では、石橋さんの晴れがましい顔をちょっとのぞいて
幸せを味わいたいと思います。
