会津八一と海ホタル

篠島には、会津八一の歌碑があります。

まどひくき　はまのやどりのまくらべに　ひねもすなきし　ねこのこのこえ

長閑な歌です。
窓低き　浜の宿りの枕辺に　ひねもす鳴きし　猫の子の声
(漢字に変えると八一独特の格調高さを損ないますが)

鹿鳴集、旅愁19首のうちの尾張篠島をおもふの第一首です。
じつは篠島を詠んだ歌はもう一首あります。
第二首として

きみとみし　しまのうらわの　むしのひの　まなこにありて　ととせへにけり

君と見し　島の浦和の　虫の灯の　目にありて十歳経にけり
島の浦和とはもちろん篠島の湾曲した浜辺で虫は海ホタルですね。
君と見た渚の海ホタルが10年たった今でも目に焼き付いているの意でしょう。

八一の歌心を刺激した風景が今もおだやかな波音をたてています。
浜を散歩しながらときおり見せる海ホタルの蒼い光に
浜をさすらう八一の姿を想像し、あらためて「篠島とは」と考えました。

春のおとずれとともに海ホタルも姿を見せはじめました。
島へ来られたら夜の浜場の散歩もお楽しみに加えてください。
